My little boy spotted my 1970s dollhouse in the attic months ago…His daddy was not thrilled with the idea of getting it down BUT Drew kept begging “please let me play with your little girl house”..finally, one day last week i drug it down, ripped out the surfaces (the yellow check wallpaper was from my room ca. 1980..in fact, my dad used all of the papers and flooring from our home at the time..i sort of hated to rip it out, almost retro but it was yuck and not clean) SO I cleaned it and painted the inside a minimalist blue..thinking it would be okay for my boys IF I put it outside on the porch and not in their room…WRONG! I also worked with Drew to call it a “play house” when Dad got home..didnt work..Dad walks in and Drew says “look at my new DOLL house” and dad responds “you can play with a few days and then it needs to go back in the attic”…maybe baby #3 will be a girl and we can all play with it..and please no comments about how awful my husband is..I know little boys live in houses and build houses but he just isnt cool with this..i think Drew will live:: the point is..isnt it cute just all one color and simple!?! and it will look cute in the guest room upstairs;; Nana can play with it when she comes!

p.s. I am also thinking it might look cute bolted to the wall above my washer and dryer for shelving/storage??

One of my cousins’ little boys loved pink, carried a purse, and played with dolls. Mom was ok, but tough-hunter-sports loving-all BOY dad had a rough time coping.

It’ll pass, until then, take lots and lots of pictures!! So darling.

That is so sweet! I love that it had the same wallpaper as your room. Very nostalgic. And it looks great blue. I also think it would look GREAT bolted above your laundry area.. there is a picture in a magazine of this… trying to remember where I saw it. If I think of it, I will let you know.

My dad made me a doll house very similar to yours when I was little. It was also decorated with paper and countertops from our home. It is still at my parent’s farm and my kids love playing with it. What a darling idea to hang it in your laundry room…much better than the attic. So sweet your little boy is enjoying too.

I had to laugh about Elton not being pleased with having the “little girl’s house” out. Imagine how T feels–he is surrounded by tea party, dress-up, and doll babies. It about kills him when Natalie asks him to play dollhouse. ;) We have the oppostite “problem” as you–he would really like a little boy, but I’m not ready to “chance” it yet. ;)

Totally cute & I think you need to find a permanent home somewhere in your house for it.

*lol* About your DH, I don't think he is alone in his thinking, a lot of dad's think like that. I remember when Nolan was little & I told my mom & sis he wanted a vacuum for b-day/Christmas & both declined as it was "too girly". It's not just men. :)

Girl. Get creative. Stick a tractor and a horse in it and call it a barn! BTW, you shouldn’t be dragging dollhouses…ahem…barns out of the the attic in your condition!

Oh, I so want to build a dollhouse. I have two boys, so of course, it would be for me. But I’m sure my almost-3-yr-old would want to play with it. He likes to play with his girl friends’ dolls when he’s at their house. I don’t think it’s anything to be worried about. :) It’s just playing ‘pretend’, right?

I saw something similar in a country living magazine once. It’s adorable. I wish I had something like that from my childhood.

I am not personally saying anything about your husband, but how many people have a problem with boys playing with “girl toys” but don’t mind if their girls want to play with guns or balls. Same thing. My little, well, 6 year old boy will sometimes play house with his 4 year old sister, but it doesn’t make him a sissy or anything like that. Don’t we all love that our men are so loving with their children??

Well…did you put up the "barn" shelving above the washer/dryer?
