Crazy that there are designers that don't want to personalize the home with family photos. As long as it's tastefully done, pictures can add warmth, personality, & interest to the interiors. It also brings joy for the family living there. Most of these serious designers design impersonal, cold, "decorated" rooms anyway, that most people would not want to live in.

With great cameras out there now, so many people are capturing beautiful photographs of family, kids, babies, everyone. So, why not display them? I hate the old Olan Mills posed shots compared to the new trends, but see nothing wrong with displaying family pics around the house. I've got several sitting on tabletops in my livingroom and scattered around the house.

I don't do huge walls of them, but if they are framed nicely (I prefer black frames & white mats), then I also see nothing wrong with a wall gallery as long as it's in a good spot and not the first thing you see walking in the door.

There is definitely an "old and dated" way of displaying family pics & a "new and fresh" way of doing it & hopefully, most people see that too.

I don't think most of us follow the elite "designers" on how our homes look and feel to us anyway. :)

My husband is a professional photographer...I am an amateur photographer. We have SO many amazing images you can't imagine. I have had to learn to really rein myself in or my house would be covered with photos.

I thoroughly believe that family photos are an important part of making a home a home. After all, isn't the family what the home is all about? And, like you, I find it difficult in a small home to keep photos in private areas only...because like you said, there really aren't private areas in a small home.

But that said, I think it is important to display the best of the best. The ones that really speak to your heart. The ones that really capture your family, your kids, your ancestors.

But, to me, at least, photographer is a powerful sort of magic, and I can't imagine a home without it.

I like this series, Holly. I tend to have mostly "candid" shots nowadays.

I do have a few good studio shots of the girls (I think one is a Christmas photo and the others are from their 1st bdays), but I like the look of more casual photos.

I have a friend whose walls are COVERED in studio shots of her kids. Honestly, I think it's way too much. Too many gold frames, too many poses. But that's just my own humble opinion.

I live in an awesome town with a beautiful "Olde Towne" area...much of it dates back to pre-Revolutionary War days. I have enjoyed taking candid shots of my girls down there and also just of the amazing architecture.

I am a TOTAL amateur, and I don't mind admitting it, but I do feel a sense of accomplishment if I get a neat shot in there somewhere. :)
