Like many of you, I have been a fan of Amy Butler and her fabrics for years.  In fact, she has been at the top of my blogroll over there since the beginning I think.  So it has been fun watching her business evolve..first the quilt fabrics, then upholstery fabrics, patterns and books, then the book, the popularity on etsy (bags and children’s clothes using her fabrics), then she did a scrapbook line and bags/baskets at Michaels, bedding and more…

    {precious baby girl in Amy Butler pjs–her pattern and fabric!}

…and now…RUGS..and they are so pretty. Check them all out here

I like Layla Grace because of the free shipping.  And I love the bold patterns..rugs can be so difficult and I think these are going to be great to work with…what do YOU think?

oh and if you aren’t in the market for a rug….how about this bag????? I love it. And the bags are on sale 20% off until Jan 30th at Layla Grace.

Our friends have three little girls and since I have boys, it is a joy to get to play pink with them and help to decorate their rooms.  I mean just look  at the dress up clothes hanging on those hooks?!

Pictured above is Kaylyn’s room, to see more click here. Yes she had a hot pink Christmas tree at the time AND notice the floral  pillow cases (the ones with the bright pink flowers) those were purchased at Cath Kidston in Sloane Square, yes..London, baby!!..I was saving them  for my baby girl but when I realized Henry was going to be well, Henry, I passed down much of my shabby chic to KK..it was quite a moment.  KK loves flowers! Her mama really ran with the look without getting too girly and frou frou..like the wire basket for toys..love that.

And here she is… Kaylyn likse to bake too, and not just a cake mix, but organic from scratch goodness..she’s every woman!

You can see baby sister Ruthie Claire’s room here

Isn’t  she just so sweet…she has the kindest eyes and disposition. We had a crazy time working on her room..we were both pregnant. But it turned out vintage and sweet..just like mama wanted!

Laney Rae is the middle girl.  She is a post all to herself. Her room has some vintage schoolhouse elements..less frou frou and more hip that girl.

And here is a peak at their schoolroom.. notice the Sarah +Abraham prints and the Alexander Henry “petting zoo” fabric on the windows..i love that fabric but it is discontinued.  I LOVE the chalkboard decals and the vintage round table too.  This is such a cute room. Lynsey is good with the decorating and knowing what she likes..she has quite a collection of shabby, vintage almost industrial things…she has a fresh modern take on the farmhouse..love it!

Yes their mama homeschools too… I dont homeschool OR eat  organic but yet we are great friends. God is cool that way.

Thanks for letting me share about the Kramer girls and their cozy farmhouse…Lynsey, can you tell I am looking forward to spending time with yall today?! You are a wonderful homemaker, mama and friend!

I went here on Friday evening, the book tour for a new marriage booked called Love & War

….and I must say, I am not really a “marriage conference” kind of girl..the thought of attending “A Weekend to Remember” or anything similar is just not my idea of fun. You could say I am cynical or have a bad attitude but I am just being honest… however, I really like John and Stasi Eldredge (they wrote Wild at Heart and Captivating, I am about to read this finally..excited) and it was a quick drive to Austin and back so I was able to go…without my husband unfortunately. But that’s ok because he was with our children and that is just how it works in this season of life. And I went with two wise and lively ladies.  And yall, it was good.  The book discussion was so honest and un-churchy and it was very solid and applicable information.

So, I highly recommend this book..don’t let the cheesy subtitle “the marriage you’ve always dreamed of” turn you off (again my cheese radar is working for yall;;)…these people are authentic and real and offer the bigger spiritual picture but also talk about the day to day of where we live. oh and Stasi has a blog.

Has anyone else read this book???  thoughts? I really could go on and on but I will stop for now…

oh and why am I putting this on my blog?..well obviously (a) it is my blog and (b) what is more important to the beauty of a home than a good marriage?!

Poor little baby Henry has an ear infection so Grace from the blog Name is Grace is going to be our guest blogger today and tell us all about her little boy Harper’s DARLING room.  I love the way it has a few nautical touches but it is not too “themey” and the shelves.  LOVE.  Thanks Grace! Yall enjoy. If you have any questions for Grace (like how did she create those adorable little art pieces) leave in my comments or on her blog!

Hi everyone! Grace here, doing my first guest post ever. I am thrilled to be here:)  Thank you Holly so much for the fun opportunity!

Today I’ll be sharing with y’all how I came up with the design for my son’s big boy room.  I am happy to say that this room was done on a shoe string budget.  I knew I wanted to keep the room classic, coastal, and fun.  The main focal point of the room is obviously the wall ledges. We did this to save space, and knew that the front covers of the books would be so much fun to display.  The rest of the room was what I call “decorate as you go, and hope it looks good.”

    Here is the breakdown….

The Vintage maps I found on Etsy for I believe $10.00. The Virginia map is over 100 years old. Total score.

The check fabric on Harper’s headboard was also from a vendor on Etsy. I simply stapled it, along with some batting over his existing headboard. Easy peasy, took 30 minutes. The bedding is all stuff we had in our linen closet.

The blue bench is from Wisteria and was on sale for $85. The ledges are from Ikea, and were $15 each.  My husband cut them down to size for a more built in look.  Again, this project took less than an hour. (side note: hubby is a genius in math, measuring, hanging, etc and can do it in his sleep). The art you see on the very top ledges were made by yours truly. The bamboo shade is from Overstock and was $40.

The white dresser was a Craigslist find for $60. It was already painted white, and had the same knobs, so I just left it as is. The lamp base was a gift from Pottery Barn Kids. The monogrammed shade I purchased from the Pink Giraffe for $29, which includes the monogram price. The oar was a baby shower gift along with the adirondack chair,  so zero buckaroos for those  ticket items.

The wood frames with mats were $3.00 each at the thrift store. And yes, the mats were included in that price. The surfboard hooks are from the Pottery Barn Outlet from years ago. I think they were $7 each.

See what I mean..shoe string budget all the way!

    Hope y’all enjoyed the post!

Just like her kitchen, Grace’s bathroom redo does not dissapoint… In fact, it is amazing considering they did it in TWO weeks.  The glass tile is gorgeous!

and the styling is right on too…what i love…the stool, the monogrammed lampshades…just perfection in my book.  Read more here

And really, yall should follow Grace’s blog..she is so sweet and she has such great ideas..she is the perfect combo of Southern belle meets California girl..oh and I just noticed she has links in her sidebar to her Virginia home where they lived before making the recent California move and links to little boy Harper’s room. I can’t wait to look at those pictures!

Keep up the good work Grace..if yall get bored, you can come to Texas and stay with us a few weeks!

Oh where to start. First off, Big Mama is a blog, most of you know that. The second blog I ever read in fact (the first being Boomama, which is probably why I called my first blog, Shabby Mama). All of this to say I think Big Mama and Boomama helped keep Shabby Mama off of the anti-depressants after Baby #1. Seriously, I was working one day in a nice office with big windows and art and then BOOM I was home with a colicky baby.  There was just a little transition. Reading their blogs daily really ministered to me. Don’t laugh, I am serious. They made me laugh and keep a healthy perspective on motherhood.

All of this to say it is a great honor (again I am not kidding. dead. serious.) to help with Big Mama and P’s living room. Mounted deer heads and all.

In fact, we’ve already chosen fabrics. The Robert Allen fabric was a steal! melanie's fabrics draft

Only $1.95 from fabric.com, yep you heard me correctly!  We were so excited.  When we originally saw the fabric it was $6.99 which is a good price but when Melanie went back (and y’all know that is her real name right?!) it was even cheaper.  The bosporous toile which I have used and mentioned before can be found online at House Fabric. Melanie found it at Hobby Lobby and it was a bargain too with their coupon.  It will be big pillows for her sofa and antique church pew.  And yall, Big Mama has a sewing machine.  So this may get interesting.

    Stay tuned.

    {Big Mama also blogs here..check it out!}

You know this blog serves several purposes in my life {insert joke here}…I am sure if I ever have time to start therapy I will learn of even more reasons behind this desire to blog. Basically it is just my shallow little diary.. a place where I catalog ideas, projects or fleeting interests and share an occasional photo of my children and record of my life. If my computer crashes and my bookmarks are lost forever, this blog will still be floating around in cyberspace! This source is one I do not want to lose in some disorganized file folder or crowded list of computer bookmarks. Barn Light Electric..made in the USA and they have everything from barn light repros (and some vintage I think) to more commercial and modern things, arts and crafts style lighting, classic schoolhouse lights and nautical.  But I love these!

Basic galvanized but with the fabulous long arm..and the one below..I have loved these old lights forever, I just adore if they have what I call “pie crust” fluted edges..of course I like this on dishes too! oh and they come in many colors (notice the porch redo featured in a recent issue of Country Living..they used red ones, so adorable!)

Often, you see these neat lights on old buildings like depots or even old garages (there is one down the street from my house that I have my eye on!)..there are reproductions out there from Lowe’s to Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and beyond but this source really has a great selection.

Oh and they have a blog too…just something for your idea file (and mine)!

I have a new light in my hallway, the hallway between the master bedroom and the nursery…and I love it!  Thanks to the husband for installing it on his holiday break. and yes, it is from Pottery Barn and they have sconces too.

It is a tiny tiny hallway so the small scale is perfect…and I love the clear glass.

But really, anything is better than what it replaced.

I can explain about the brass.  When we moved in to our little house NINE + years ago, I found this little light in brushed nickel and it was fine, especially for $20 bucks.  BUT they only had one and I needed TWO (one for another little hallway upstairs)..  So I got the nickel for upstairs and the brass one for the hallway so we could have a light for a few weeks and then I just thought I would simply  replace it when I had time to find something I liked better.  You know how that goes…so finally…finally we have a better light in this little space and I love it! I will say it casts a shadow on the ceiling that bothered me at first but who cares, the brass is gone and I dont even notice it a few days later.

And THIS little light, which BTW is exactly what he is, pure light and joy, well he is 6 months old today!  We love you baby Henry, you are such a blessing to our family.  What did we do without you?

This is what I find in his crib every morning…a happy baby!

all day long for the most part…

don’t hate me, my first one was not this content so I am very thankful.

    soaking. it. up. thankful.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. -James 1:17

    ballarddrapes

Ballard just started carrying these (or I have missed them the 3-4 times a week I look there for clients) I love the simple look of solid panels with a different color block on bottom..in fact I often recommend (as do others, I imagine many designers are nodding their heads as they read this) that clients buy plain IKEA panels or something similar and add to the bottom to customize..now Ballard is doing it for you.. which is your fave color combo?? Do you like this look?  What is your secret weapon for windows???

I need to do a huge misc post this week..so many random things to talk about…more soon!
