Ballard just started carrying these (or I have missed them the 3-4 times a week I look there for clients) I love the simple look of solid panels with a different color block on bottom..in fact I often recommend (as do others, I imagine many designers are nodding their heads as they read this) that clients buy plain IKEA panels or something similar and add to the bottom to customize..now Ballard is doing it for you.. which is your fave color combo?? Do you like this look? What is your secret weapon for windows???
I need to do a huge misc post this week..so many random things to talk about…more soon!

Yes, I love this look. I think I first saw it when Candace Olsen did it on “Divine Design” years ago and I was smitten ever since. I think there are a few other catalogs that do this now too… when somethings good, everyone wants in the game! Happy New Year!

i’ve been wanting to do this for our master bedroom drapes. one day i’ll find the time! or maybe it’ll be worth it to just splurge on the ballard ones. i love them!

Love the curtains; Saw similar handmade version on a blog last year where she used painter’s dropcloths as the top portion (less than 10 bucks each at Lowes) and a black sheet for the bottom border…talk about design on a dime:

Ok, so IF (just an if) I chicken out on the red toile, would these (or the acorn panel) be an option??

OK, to be totally honest…it’s not my favorite look. Here is why–it always looks to me as if the curtains weren’t long enough and you HAD to add on some fabric at the bottom. I’m not sure why that bothers me but it does. Maybe it’s because I am always always on a budget but try to find things that don’t look like totally “budgeted”. In fact, I have a really tall window in my living room that I am waiting for the right curtains to go on sale–I would rather do without than add on to the bottom of too short of ones. Maybe that’s weird–looking forward to hearing more responses.
Love your blog Holly and always look forward to a new post by you!

Kelli, I know what you mean..because i have done it (added length) if they make you feel that way then dont do it…it will only bother you..how about drop clothes or linen yardage from fabric.com for your tall windows..GOOD LUCK!

I agree with Kelli. I have never liked this look for the same reason. I have very tall windows as well, and found some linen looking panels at IKEA that are 108″ long. Several colors to choose from. They are tab top, and I am not a tab-top girl, but I am thinking about cutting off the tabs and then sewing on large wood rings to put on wood rods. My big dilema is whether I should do the IKEA panels, or wood shutters? The panels seem like a warmer look, and would cost a lot less, but I am afraid of them looking “fussy” and getting dusty. The shutters seem clean and classic, but will the room miss that cozy feel? Every time I think I have made up my mind I change it again! I wish a window treatment fairy would just pop over and do it for me!

i like this look! you know i’m using ikea panels in the nursery and will dress them up with ribbon and trim….they were so cheap…15.00 for two, long panels and thick material

I love this look – and we actually have similar drapes in our living room. We found ours at Pottery Barn outlet, they are the Contrast Band Drapes, and they come in a variety of colors and are very similar to their Peyton drapes. Machine washable, durable and I highly recommend!

We did these in my upstairs bedroom, remember? Long before Ballard carried them. You’re SO design-forward, my friend. A trendsetter!

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not a big fan of the two colour look, although if the experts swear by it then it might be something to consider. Personally though, having such a dark colour at the bottom makes the drapes look very “heavy” at the bottom, while a lighter colour at the bottom makes it excessively long (or at least appear that way). Just my two cents, though.
