Hello, I love the way Alexandria Beige and Davenport Tan look in the pictures. However, on the paint chips at the store they both look more Brown, quite a lot darker than in these picures. Any idea why? I'm leaning toward a neutral wall color again and these both look so appealing in the pictures. The Revere Pewter picure looks more like the paint chip. Great pictures...thanks

Holly,
I love your website and am really enjoying the paint information. They only question: what finish do you recommend?

Thanks for the laugh in your last comment! I also have dirt at my house AND white ceilings and ceiling fans!

Beautiful pictures and this is a great post. These are some of my most favorite colors - soft and beautiful.

So nice that Joetta has been so generous with her time, knowledge and connections. That's real class.

You are right...this theory fails when using the color red and maybe any non-neutral color....I would say with red walls do white ceiling or a complimentary color like the neutral used on walls in the adjoining room or a khaki or grey...any other thoughts out there??? my red room has white ceilings..all of my rooms have white ceilings to be honest...i also have linoleum and ceiling fans in my house..just being honest..oh and dirt..we have that too!

Hi Holly-

Love your blog! I do have a question that I am hoping you can help me with. I am in the process of painting my family room red and I love the idea of a non white ceiling but if I go with a few shades lighter or half strength won't that give me pink? What would you recommend?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hooray for non-white ceilings! Especially important in a bedroom where you do actually look up quite a bit. I'm loving my half-formula ceilings!
