Oh, Kristin above I see your post was in February and now it is November. You may have painted by now! I hope you de-glossed all your semi-glass walls with Binz (sp?) or similar before you painted any sheen that is less than semi-gloss. I actually prefer flat or the new matte. I have so much light in my house that I can't handle the bounce that comes off a higher sheen. Maybe the sheen you choose depends on the light in your house? Or the kind of walls you have: drywall, stucco, plaster. Always wash your walls down with TSP or similar before painting. The awful thing about painting is that the prep takes far longer than the 2 coats of new color!

Picking paint colors is so hard! These are some great tips. I'm going to be the odd ball but I use high gloss for the walls. It makes them look more polished and expensive, if that makes sense. My kids have colored on them and kicked them with muddy feet and with the enamel in the paint it just wipes right off. Its also thicker and protects. I have semi gloss in the living room and a year later its already showing wear. I'm a high gloss for everything girl!

I'm loving your color posts! Just a question tho...Eggshell or Satin for the walls? I always thought semi-gloss for was walls and gloss for trim? I'm getting ready to paint the whole inside of my house (it's been 5 years, it's time) so I would really love some help. I have semi-gloss on the walls and trim now.

Keep in mind, I have seven kids and easy wall cleaning is very important to me! :)

I painted our family room Tobacco Road (all in thanks to the Nester), and I looooove it. It totally works in this room. We get sun all day long in there, and then in the evening we have lamplight (and the warm glow of Seinfeld re-runs and 30 Rock when the babies are asleep). It's an awesome color.

And, yes, eggshell for me. I use Hi-gloss, though, on all my trim and baseboards...it always looks clean and polished...and it's ridiculously easy to wipe down...so it STAYS looking clean and polished. :o)

I prefer flat for the walls-- our plaster walls look "shiny" enough with it, and sort of oddly semi-glossy with anything more. I really like her doors over the sofa (on a very pretty background color!)

First day on your website... I was intrigued to see what your favorite colors are! I actually used Oyster Bay in my home and in my husband's dental office. In my home (where there is a lot of natural light) it is a very light blue-grey. In the office, with artificial light, I often get comments that people "like the green color." Very versatile, and a beautiful color! Amazing that a "blue" can be a neutral!
