Design Inspiration: D’Ette Cole

A true pioneer woman herself, Texas artist D’Ette Cole is providing wonderful inspiration for our new friend Hyacinth’s room. D’Ette is well-known for her amazing store in Austin, Uncommon Objects on South Congress (SoCo), and her fabulous show at Round Top Antiques Fair, called CLUTTER. Cole has since moved on from these retail endeavors and has created Etta Industry to house all of her creative work…everything from styling Nancy Griffin’s album covers to private design work. In fact, Haskell Harris over at Garden & Gun, recently did a feature on Cole. Check it out here.

Bottom line, Hyacinth likes quirky, eclectic and modern.  But not Kelly Wearstler glam modern.  No sir, we like cows mixed in with our modern style.

So we talked back and forth, I showed her Cole’s 2008 Cottage Living spread “The Art of Improbable Mish Mash” and we have found common ground! Hyacinth is all about “mish mash.”

In fact, we’ve got so much “mish mash” going on… this might be the number of bottles the Design Team empties before we finish this room!

Just kidding.  We love you Hyacinth.

And I can’t wait for y’all to hear soon from the two other team members, Layla and Melissa, about this room. They have some amazing talent and philosophy!

Stay tuned.

  1. Holly,

I love the idea of a collage in my kitchen area! I’ve always wanted a collage and I just haven’t executed it – it will be a challenge! Whew, don’t abandon me, Design Team Hyacinth!

I love that chandelier thing of empties! 🙂 I’ll start saving mine…..

  2. I want her ginormous sink! Not that I have room for it in my kitchen, but when has that ever stopped me. And the cow prints remind me of those old french engravings you had-which are in my closet as we speak. You know, the ones that used to freak E out? They NEED to be put to good use!

  3. Oh my goodness! This makes me incredibly happy! If this were my home, I’d never leave. Love the colors, textures, picture collage and especially the deck. What a great place to have a party or a quiet moment. If Hyacinth’s house takes on this look, I’m moving to Oklahoma! Cannot wait to see what Design Team Hyacinth will do and so appreciative to be able to be a part of this journey!!!

Wow!! Now that’s a bottle tree a girl can love!!! WHERE, oh WHERE did that come from and HOW can I get one??? Fantastic fun for the back yard!!!!

  5. So excited to see what you guys do. LOVE The Pioner Woman.

RE: Your John Cusick link over to the side. You need to read the essay Chuck Klosterman did on men of our generation having to compete with John/Lloyd Dobler, and how none of us (men or women) can find true love because we are messed up by the fictional character of Lloyd. Funny stuff!! Here’s a link to a small part of the essay. https://scienceblogs.com/principles/2006/08/you_are_not_lloyd_dobler.php
