Round Top Antiques Fair is a Texas tradition that is known nationally for good shopping and fun.  But it is big y’all, really big.  And it lasts over days and that really confuses people.  It confuses me….each year I have to think “what weekend is early buying, when does Marburger open? “etc… Luckily a lot of shows send out postcard reminders and there is an abundance of information online, like here www.roundtop.org.

Thursday morning after we dropped big brother off at school, Henry and I headed out to Round Top to see what was going on.  My expectations were low, I had an 8 month baby in tow and not much time, less than three hours.  My goal was to simply go to La Bahia, the closest stop (thus my advice, start at the beginning!), I love this little show, the parking is easy and it is not overwhelming and I always find something for a good price.  But I was too early, La Bahia opened on Friday.  So we kept driving and nothing looked very “open” until we got nearly to Warrenton on FM 237.  I refused to go to Zapp Hall because you have to pay for parking and I had such a short time,  Clutter was closed, I couldn’t find a place to park easily at the Excess show so I pulled into Coles’s Antique Market in Warrenton. I had never even been to this show until last year.  One of my favorite vendors from La Bahia, The Seed Box, had moved there so I followed.  My friend Lynsey turned me on to this vendor a while back…she usually cleans them out so y’all better get over there!

What’s up with the paintbrushes??? they had them everywhere in this booth and it looked really interesting?  Just wait, Anthropologie will be doing this next, or maybe they already have!? And don’t you just love the hay tucked in the drawer and different places, makes me want to sneeze but cute…it must be so much fun to style a booth and be able to do funky things that are not practical in a home….

{more from the Seed Box, come back next week and I will show what I bought there…}

{it wasn’t the fenders}

And on Thursday it was very windy so I was happy to escape into their metal buildings for a bit.  When you have a large stroller, concerete floors are easier to push on than heavy gravel paths.  I found a few interesting things in the Cole’s barn.

I don’t remember the name of this booth but it is inside the metal barn at the Coles show and she has lots of ironstone and vintage flashcards, a sweet lady!

Vintage anatomy charts from Germany, this booth also had vintage ticking and the German feed sacks that are so popular for pillows..very sweet people, they made fast friends with Henry..he helps me get discounts and permission to take pictures.

{my little shopping buddy}

We bought a few things and made it out of there and back to school for brother in the nick of time.  Henry never cried, what a trooper!  Next week I will try for Zapp and maybe Marburger!

For a complete list of shows go here.  Where do YOU like to go at Round Top?? Any pointers to share?!

    Great “eye candy” shots, Holly. :) I am still (!) on the lookout for vintage flashcards…sigh. I guess no one in the ‘Burg used them. ;) I laughed at your use of Henry as a discount machine…I do it with the girls all the time!! ;)

    First – I am crying. Yes, real tears. Real ones! I lived in Brenham for 8 years and I never made it to the Round Top Festival!!!! Can you believe that!!!! I know, me neither. I wanted to go this year soooooooooooooo bad but I was in Brenham during spring break and that was one week too early. ONE WEEK!. BooHoo hoo.

    I see so many things in your pictures that I need. I need them. I am working on my outdoor room and I need those things. I’m just sure of it.

    Ahh well, there is always the fall. THis is the year that I will make it to Round Top – alone, all by myself – so that I can look to my heart’s content. I know it, I can feel it.

    Also, where have you been my whole life? I love your blog, love your style and I’m pretty sure I love your friend Ella. I will have to go visit her store.

    AND last but not least you have a Henry – we have a Hadley. She’s 7 months old, she’s my grand-daughter.

    That’s it, that’s all, I’m just crying over Round Top. Sorry. :)

    I’ve bought quite a few “smalls” from Seed Box. Love them. They come to Urban Market here in Houston if you ever miss them in Warrenton. I think I’m going to skip Marburger’s opening this time around and just go to Urban Market in May. It just snuck up on me…and honestly, there’s not a thing I need at the moment, so I’ll resist the temptation!

    I also love The Seed Box! I bought several things from them, including a table I need to go back and pick up… did you see it? I went last week, and they had ALREADY sold a ton… and I thought I was early. We may have passed each other at La Bahia! I stopped their briefly on Thursday. I had my little guy with me, as well. I am just itching to go back out to the fields! I hope you show some pictures of what you bought!

    Oh, sweet Round Top! I lived in Houston for 8 years, and I would hit every show–been there in oppressive heat and cold, rain, 7-months pregnant, with a newborn nursing, with lots of friends and family–oh, how I miss it! On my last trip, right before we moved from TX, I don’t know how many times I cried during the day, mainly because I knew I wouldn’t be there again like that with my bff, Rach, who always accompanied me. We filled up the truck that day and sure looked like the Clampetts. Thank you for this post! One of these days I’ll coordinate a trip back to Houston with a Round Top weekend. :)

    Hey Holly:
    We were at Warrenton yesterday – me 36 weeks prego, with 2 1/2 year old to boot – needless to say, my expectations were low as well BUT we actually had one of the most successful trips we’ve had in a long time. We found several new vendors (mostly from Atlanta) who were carrying lots of industrial chic and french-ish items. From what we gathered, they were a typical Marburger booth, but wanted/needed more exposure that Warrenton offers. One vendor told us specifically that she preferred to offer better prices than she could when she had to pay the booth fee at Marburger. Whether that’s true, or just a line, we DID see new stuff, and that was a great thing!

    Soooo much to see. Impossible to see it all in a day and who wants to drive up from Houston 2-4 days in a row!! So, I’ll go either Mon or Tues and just wander around some of the shows I know. Don’t think I want to risk the crush on Marburger Tues morning – but oh, such pretty things in there! My book lady!!

    I was in Warrenton yesterday (not pregnant!) and found some great stuff – pink milk glass bowl, laundry markers and french ticking that is to die for! Expensive but I splurged. I walked away from 3 clock faces (one pink!) so if whoever bought them would give them to me I would appreciate it. I hate it when I don’t buy immediately. Windy it was. But I was alone and just loved being able to zig zag. Will go up again Fri. The wildflowers were beautiful between Beeville and Warrenton, especially around Industry.
