I love upholstered headboards and agree with most of the comments. I usually do them upholstered with tacks, tufting, details such as buttons or monogram and then have a simple slip cover made in addtion which is used frequently. In guest bedrooms which are seldom used, I use the slip cover for protection from dust and an occassional cat that decides to sleep in the guest room!
For those with out budgets: check out the Oly Studios Dakota bed. HIgh headboard, lots of options, expensive but wonderful. I am just ordering for a client in sand colored leather, no nail heads. Kathy

We have the Stanley Furniture “Louis Louis Wing Man Bed”…it is upholstered in a beautiful light tan fabric with small wing back and nailhead trim. We love it. There used to be a Stanley outlet in Martinsville, VA where the furniture is made…but I believe they moved their outlet to NC….

It’s SO easy to make your own upholstered headboard and very inexpensive. For $50, I made a king size headboard with cream burlap and French nailhead trim. I cut the shape out of butcher paper and then had my husband cut it out of a piece of wood from Home Depot. Then I covered it with quilting batting and then fabric. Once I hammered in the nailhead trim, my husband attached it to our bedframe. We love it and I get tons of compliments. If I get tired of the burlap, I could either pull out the trim and recover it or just make a slipcover.

I have 4 boys. Free advice. If it can get ruined , broken, dirty with boys around it will. Go with the slipcover. (but boys sure are sweet!!:)

Hello! I love your blog and designs! I wanted to make a quick comment…we purchased the Camden headboard (untufted) last year…It took me about 6 months to make the decision to buy, as I hem-hawed about choices…my husband is the one who said “Just buy it if you love it!”…anyways, even after measuring with the dimensions from the website, we were surprised at how low the headboard is. In fact, we were not able to use the legs that came with the headboard, my husband attached 2×4′s (which I have yet to paint a cream color to match!). I believe you mentioned wanting a headboard that went to the floor…the Camden does not. All in all, I would order it again, we absolutely love it. I just wanted to point out those factors in case they helped your decision!

I love those! I like the tufted ones best. My girlfriend does custom ones and they aren’t that expensive either. I like that you can change them easily if you get tired with a slip cover.

I also live in NC and frequent the Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams factory outlet. It is like heaven to me. I got a Williams Sonoma Home upholstered headboard there for an unreal price. They often have sales giving an additional 20% off of their already reduced prices. The outlet is located in a furniture outlet mall so there are tons of other shops to check out while there. If you’re ever in North Carolina and can get to Hickory, it’s definitely worth the trip!

Go to Furniture Land South’s website and check out the Stanley Furniture upholstered headboard… very nice! Not sure about the price but sometimes they have free delivery!
