I mentioned La Bahia earlier in the week but I have more pictures to share. I love going to La Bahia because it is so close..it is on the edge of all of the Round Top traffic and so easy to get in and out..especially when you have a little one in tow and not much time before big brother gets out of school! Free parking and decent BBQ… strollers fit in the bathroom..works great. So Henry and I took off for La Bahia on Monday and it did not disappoint. I already showed you the crazy quilt and darling chair we found outside at the show.

But some of the best  (textiles, paper, silver and china) are found inside the old German hall (or Turn Verein) at La Bahia, love that old building with its many sides, open windows, exposed rafters, wood floors and bandstand!

And our favorite place in the Turn Verein is Melisse Campbell Prints & Antiques. Henry made fast friends with the sweet ladies in that booth, especially Nancy!  They are from Baton Rouge and  have a wonderful selection of Natural History antique prints of birds, botanicals, eggs, ferns and animals. She also has vintage prints and original drawings and paintings. Notice the eggs behind Henry….here is a closer look.

They are British eggs in hand wrought English mat with gold leaf. I wanted about six of them for a grouping!  But I really wanted the small oils below by her mother, Sheryl Campbell..they are of the Mississippi River at sunset. I love the size, they are about 5-6″ square..aren’t they lovely?!

I did buy this drawing by Marion Allen who worked at Sakowitz Department Store in Houston and also taught art.  I think it is really interesting and I love the local reference and the way Nancy cut the mat.

and this egg and little abstract painting..I love the size and big mats.

Melisse also has a booth at Big Red Barn, number 338, and she will be at Urban Market in May! I will be saving my pennies Melisse!

You know, I did not get to a do very much of Round Top this year, I will not make Marburger or even Zapp Hall but if you find just one thing you love and get to meet one interesting shopowner and chat it is so much fun! So if you go, don’t get overwhelmed with the vastness, just take it slow and enjoy the spot where you are at the show and what it has to offer.

Holly, I love that quilt… If no client expresses interest, I’d love to hear more about it. La Bahia is my favorite, too. This afternoon I’m going to visit the see-saw man who sits out in the front–I hope he’s there now that I’m ready to buy from him! I love reading your blog.

I love Melisse! Her things are certainly beautiful – I want everything she has. She and her sweet mom are fantastic artists.

Great post – La Bahia is my favorite part of the show these days, for all the same reasons….though the fields beckon, I love this little venue. Sweet baby.
