What do cute skirts from Boden and one of my favorite e-clients  have in common??? fabric of course!

I mean really,  it just me or does this adorable Boden skirt ….

not look like this fabric…

This fabric is great…I’ve used it on several projects lately and I love it..the scale is much larger than you might think (notice in the photos  below)…Look how great it looks on this sofa we just spruced up recently for my client… Remember Nancy’s cute kitchen window..well this is her house and she did a great job making pilllows from some of the fabrics shown below…

This is one way my version of e-decorating works…I suggest fabrics and then the clients order samples like Nancy did so they can see and feel the fabric in person before making their selection and order..often they spread the fabrics out like here so i can say “delete the PB pillow” or “delete fabric number 3″ etc…usually I have my own sample piece at home so once the client has it in hand we can discuss via email and map out where to use what fabric (which can be a challenge in these huge open floor plans huh?!)

I just love good quality, affordable fabric like these pictured above..jump on over to Cote de Texas..she is talking about this topic today and mentions many favorites!

I love that floral! It’s like funky traditional. And yes I’m totally loving the inexpensive but current fabrics out there these days…I found Premier Fabrics online (terrible website but great fabrics) and then their store in Jackson and can’t wait to get about 10 bolts of the stuff. :)

this is so funny…those samples you see in the picture were from calico corners (funny because of the cote de texas blog post today). i went in to buy the fabric and they had just changed their policy so i borrowed the samples to see if they’d work and took them back to the store. i’d been looking at them online and knew they were cheaper at fabric.com and since i’d have to now (due to their new policy) order them anyway i went the “cheaper” route with fabric.com (sorry calico corners but your new policy stinks).

on another note if you’re interested in an online consult with Holly but you’re just not sure I say you should just go for it. I’ve worked on four rooms so far with her and I couldnt have done it without her. I have three little boys so not alot of free time. You send pics, email back and forth, and then work at your own pace to get things done (like for me making pillows, covering chairs, ordering curtains, etc) and as your budget allows. I cant say enough good things about the process. With Holly’s help my house is finally feeling like a home to me.

I LOVE the above fabrics!! I am a fabric junky! One of my favorite things to do is make pillows! I have tons around my house and my friends now know what an inexpensive way it is to update or change a look entirely!
    Thanks for the great blog!

Great fabric choices, Holly and Nancy! By the way, those are indoor-outdoor fabrics, so they’ll be easy to clean and fade-resistant too. Calico Corners recently photographed an outdoor setting featuring some of those fabrics and they look terrific made up. The major floral pattern is called HIP FLORAL OD and the light ground is color Sorbet and the brown ground is color Chocolate. These fabrics will be online shortly.

HIP also is available at Calico in a non-outdoor version in a great looking BERRY color on a taupe ground. This fabric is online now. It looks great with citron and plum colors that complement the print.

We know that Calico is not always the cheapest source of fabrics–especially among online sources that don’t have to pay store rents or salaries of sales associates. In addition to great fabrics, the Calico stores offer great service, with a knowledgeable staff and talented in-home designers. They will handle all aspects of custom work, from fabrication to installation–and help design window treatments, coordinate colors and textures, and much more.

The Calico associates really try to build a relationship with their customers–or designer customers like Holly. They’re not just clerks who cut yardage and leave you to figure out on your own all the elements of creating a great room. How do you put a value on that? Or on the odds that an experienced Calico sales associate can prevent you from making an expensive mistake? At Calico, we think it’s worth something to make the process of decorating your home a friendly, fun and creative experience. Thanks again for your post.

    Hi Holly and Nancy to!
I love these fabrics and since I am in need of new fabric to recover my family room chair, the brown floral fabric just might be perfect! Nancy, I saw that you ended up buying the fabric from fabrics.com and not only did you save a ton of money but if you purchased the floral fabric it was indoor/outdoor fabric and it is 100% polyester instead of 100% cotton like Calico Corners and it will be so much more durable with small children! I definitely plan on using the polyester since I have four little ones and we need something much more durable than cotton! Thank you both for all the info!

Oh, I love that brown floral fabric. What a great find. And, in the last photo I am currently really loving the green one that is a knock off of a favorite China Seas print (at a much better price and no pesky minimum yardage!) Different online sources and JoAnns seem to have their own licensed colorways….I spent hours trying to hunt them all down recently.

Oh my! Love the fabrics — all of them! I may need to think about some of those for my redecorating project. The colors are wonderful! Thanks for a wonderful post and making me drool over beautiful fabrics.
