My favorite thing about summer is the 4th of July party we have at our house – lots of friends/family from near and far, delicious food, fireworks, and games.
Comment by Carrie — April 14, 2011 @ 11:02 am
I love all things SUMMER ~ but my favorite is the July 3rd fireworks display at the country club where I live. Families lay out blankets and picnics, people share wine with friends passing by and it feels like everyone in town is in the same place, watching the same sky and feeling happy.
Comment by northern cottage — April 14, 2011 @ 11:10 am
Summmer is ABSOLUTELY my favorite season. I adore running barefoot through sweet fresh mowed grass with sunshine warming me up! Sipping iced tea on the porch after a long day & even pulling weeds!

ahhhh! Well, my favorite thing about summer is living on a lake. We spend all our time in or around the water, and I just love it! We live in a neighborhood where everyone knows one another and the kids can just go from house to house and they are totally safe. I wouldn’t want to spend my summers any other way! Thanks Holly! Hope you have a great summer as well! Melaine

My favorite thing about summer is swimming outside — not in a pool, but a lake or creek or something!
Comment by kelly — April 14, 2011 @ 3:13 pm
As an elementary school teacher I dearly looooove my summer! The absolute freedom from paperwork alone is enough to make me do cartwheels, but aside from that, I love the smells of summer…grass that has just been cut, thunderstorms with rain coming, the beach, roses, fresh corn, peaches(big time here in Georgia!)suntan lotion…
Would love Mathew’s new publication – with your part in it especially!

Ok…I’ll be honest here…I love the carefree days. We homeschool, so I appreciate the time with no schedules, no official assignments, just days of enjoying my kids. I get time to be just “mom” not juggling the “mom/teacher” role.
Comment by Tiffany — April 14, 2011 @ 4:14 pm
The summers are so short in the northwest so I enjoy EVERY moment. There is just something about sunshine that puts everyone in a happy mood.

We live right on Main street in our small town, and the memorial day pararde goes right in front of our house. We have a HUGE parade party that is in its 7th year and includes about 20 families with lots and lots of kids. It is a tradition that the bring their bikes, scooters or ride on toys and we decorate them with anything and everything red white and blue. Then when they shut the road down before the parade makes it to us the kids ride there bikes down the street. People who are on the sides clap and cheer and the kids think they are in the parade! Its the best kick off to summer ever!
Comment by Gold Shoe Girl — April 15, 2011 @ 6:23 am

What I love about summer is my husband is home more. At least for a short time before football meetings and practices start. I love that we take a trip together every year on or around our anniversary. I love that he can come take me to lunch.
Comment by Vicki K — April 15, 2011 @ 11:23 am
Hurray – a new MM publication!! I love the “longer” days – the light that starts early and lasts long into the evening. It’s just wonderful to have the luxury to do things in cheery light!!
Comment by colleen — April 15, 2011 @ 5:38 pm
What don’t i like about summer would be an easier question to answer! I LOVE having family time every day (my husband is a school teacher); big ripe red tomatoes, juicy watermelon, blueberries, blackberries, peaches and corn; sunkissed noses on my kids, the beach and the smell of rain on a hot summer’s day. AND I especially love how well my kids sleep after a day of swimming and playing
It is my FAVORITE season!
Comment by Diane M. — April 15, 2011 @ 7:02 pm
Summer! It seems like a Long Long way off here in the N.E. I guess that’s what makes it so much sweeter. Picnics, flower gardens, sitting outside with friends and a tall glass of iced tea and that’s just the beginning. Oh…and getting to see *you* in MM’s newest publication. (thank you!!)
Comment by Theresa Johnson — April 15, 2011 @ 7:20 pm
Hello! Congrats on your part in MM’s HOLIDAY! When I think summer I think about the beach…we have a lovely lake near us with the most beautiful public beach. You just feel like you’re on vacation with all the boats, sailboats and lake homes surrounding you. My kids so enjoy the warmth and water and EVERY time on the short ride home I see them asleep in the back seat which means it was a full, fun day.
Comment by Pam K — April 16, 2011 @ 5:58 am
My favorite thing about summer, is the smell of fresh cut grass, sweaty boys from play hard fun and restful nights from play time exhaustion. I know that’s more than one but it’s a fun time.

I love the laziness of the summer. Getting to sleep late, wear shorts and flip flops, beautiful blue skies with birds and butterfiles around and the smell of fresh cut grass. At night the crickets and frogs are making music to sleep to also. Can’t wait!

Summer feels like someone gave me permission to not wake up and go at a break neck speed until bedtime. That is the best feeling. My girls & I enjoy hanging out with each other, playing in the backyard, and doing whatever strikes our fancy that day. God bless a schedule free summer!

Vacation…a break from everyday routine….also gotta love those trips to the Farmers Market–tomatoes, cream peas, fried okra, squash, cantalope, and peach cobbler with blue bell ice cream. Red geraniums in pots everywhere, happy kids splashing in the pool. Only problem is the Texas heat…. and those pesky mosquitos

Of all the things that I live about summer, I would have to say I’m looking forward to hanging up the hammock in the shade. It was one of my favorite things to do as a child. We would bring out a fluffy blanket and our favorite books and just enjoy the breeze. Add a glass of lemonade and I’ll be set!
Comment by Maureen — April 21, 2011 @ 8:40 am
I like the fact that things run at a bit more relaxed pace. I like the open windows with fresh air coming in the house and the beauty of green grass and flowers.

Right now, I just love everything about summer as we can’t seem to quite shake winter. But…since I have to choose it would be warm sunshine. Just closing my eyes and imagining the feel of warm sun, just makes my toes tingle.
Comment by Kara — April 21, 2011 @ 9:41 am
Summers on the lake! Growing up in the North, the few, okay two short months of summer were always a welcome reward for surviving the frigid winters! Waterskiing, swimming, s’mores by the lake!

Comment by Stephanie — April 21, 2011 @ 4:55 pm
My favorite thing about summer is summer vacation! Growing up, my mom would always try to come up with fun trips. She took me to Disney World (every kid’s dream), Williamsburg, VA; Washington D.C.; Lexington KY(to see horse farms); etc. Disney was the only “traditional” vacation, because my mom wanted us to experience something new together. It always brought us closer together (especially when during the school year I thought I was “too cool” to hang out with my poor mom. )I wish we could still have those mother daughter vacations!
Comment by Kathy — April 21, 2011 @ 6:46 pm

Spending quite time with my family in the garden enjoying the labor of my husband’s hands, admiring the beauty of the special flowers he plants for me and the organic food he grow for our family. Listening to the Cicadas and the crickets melody, catching a sweet fragrance lofting on the evenings warm air as the fading sun warns by back as my hubby readys the campfire.
A close second is the line dried smell of our clothes.
