Plaid Christmas love

I love plaid, especially at Christmas..i had so many plaid Christmas dresses growin up..i wish i had a photo of that red plaid fabric with the forest green and gold metallic thread in it..my  mom had dresses made for me out of it, stockings, tree skirts, bows for the trees, even a shirt for my brother!..she loved that plaid and while i must admit i am over THAT particular plaid i might just might be adding some plaid to my tree this year..we will see.  I know you are all on the edge of your seat..not! Sometimes I feel so silly listening to NPR in the car about all that is going on in the world and then coming inside and blogging about..plaid!  But oh well here it goes..

  20. Yep…love plaid and Ralph too! My 18 year old son’s nursery was done in Ralph Lauren plaids & chambray…had to have it custom made with RL sheets. He continued to grow up with plaids also…he now has the Nautica patched plaid quilt on his bed…nothing else seems right…love it!!!

  21. I absolutely know what you’re saying about listening to NPR and then doing the things I do….or being unhappy about something that REALLY isn’t important…except to me. But, then I’m reminded that we do what we are called to do. And as women, I believe that we are to make our homes a sanctuary for our husbands. (Though we might just get carried away with what that sanctuary looks like…teehee.)

Plaid. I love plaids. But, when it all comes down to it, I rarely wear or decorate with them. Mostly I just appreciate those who do.

  22. Oh the pattern of Christmas – plaid! I’m very fortunate to live a couple hours from Pendleton Oregon and the wool factory. A true treat if you ever find yourself traveling that freeway. Last year I did a mini photo shoot of all my plaid I had gathered in just a few months. Fun stuff! Merry Christmas.

  23. What a cute idea! I hadnt thought about using plaid as a theme for Christmas, it makes me feel warm and cozy. I think my fiance would love this idea for our home next year… he wears a LOT of flannels. 🙂

  24. I love plaid as much as you do it appears and I think that last photo is from the Adventures of tartanscot..scot meacham wood. Not sure but I think so.

  25. I heart plaid…any color/pattern 🙂 I have 3-4 long-sleeve plaid shirts in my closet….I wear them year-round…one of my favorite items (addictions) lol.

  26. I LOVE plaid. I just purchased a vintage plaid throw for Christmastime. I love the look of red plaid, but I always end up with a navy and green because my maiden name is Campbell…so I buy a Campbell plaid. My son has had several pictures taken in Campbell plaid shirts, with my dad. There is something very traditional and nostalgic about it for me. BTW, do you remember the Ashley Putnam (house published in Lonny) house tour on SemiDesigned Life, I think? IT was at Christmas and she had some fab white bedding with tartan trim.

  27. LOVE plaid. I grew up right next to Pendleton, Oregon so a trip to the Woolen Mills was a grade school requirement. 🙂 But I still love it and totally want to find/make some plaid stockings.

  28. Holly,

Hey there. You were asking about the resource for that final image – and interestingly enough, it’s actually a picture of my own home from several holiday seasons past. I worked for Mr. Lauren for many years before opening up my own design firm here in San Francisco. Glad you love my home as much as I do!

    Cheers,
    Scot

  29. Loved this post, as I am obsessed with plaid!! Target actually has the some large plaid pillows (in both red and green) for sale right now that I think you would love!

  33. Oh.my.gosh…I am a plaid-Ralph Lauren-preppy loving girl in Minnesota. Cannot get enough!! Love you Holly, and love your blog, and especially loved your mad for plaid post. Do you have a source for the plaid plates? And, to the above commenter, I absolutely remember Ashley Putman’s home in Lonny….gorgeous. Oh, and Target has a great red plaid scarf. Just got it and will wear it for sure, but will also use it to decorate for Christmas…will wrap it around something for some more lovely plaid-ness : )))

  42. I love plaid. My brother used to work for Pendelton and for our birthdays and/or wedding he got us a blanket. We used to go to the Pendleton outlet at the mill in Washougal, WA all the time. I still have my blanket and it’s a beauty.

  43. mad for plaid says

Love plaid…must be the Scottish herritage in me. Btw, the red tartan plaid is called Stewart plaid. Plaids actually signified clans(families) names. They would wear kilts and sashes and what not out of their clan plaid. It’s really interesting….and after awhile it was kinda outlawed…but they would wear it as a sign of rebellion. And now that is why you see it with punk rockers/goth now. Amazing how it has evolved thru time. Best wishes…

  44. I LOVE plaid!!!! I had a plaid wedding back in 1993. I love Ralph Lauren. I have something plaid in almost every room. I love interior design. I have seen plaid bathrooms where the tile work was plaid.

That’s Royal Stewart tartan plaid, and if you like it check out the new movie “Moonrise Kingdom”, where you will see vintage items, like a lunchbox, in that pattern. (It’s set in 1965.) I love the plaid bookbag, which is featured in the last scene of their trailer.
