British Beauty

On this gloomy and drizzly day in Texas it seems fitting to visit with and now blog about my new friend, Josie Parsley.  Josie is a Brit ex-pat living in Houston, Texas.  She contacted me after finding me on Instagram and we have hit it off via email and now in person.  Josie has great style.  She has a bespoke stationary company called Fraser & Parsley and she also does party planning and has been featured on Amy Atlas!

Before she left England for Texas, her family’s beautiful home in Kent was featured in a wonderful UK publication called 25 Beautiful Homes.

Look at the floors, the slate fireplace, the windows and beams!  The house itself is so gorgeous and Josie seems to have know just what colors and patterns were needed.  She showed brilliant restraint in just the right places, not overdecorating or overpowering the
wonderful bones of the house.
I just had to share this article with you and Josie’s fresh and elegant style. There is something different about this home from interiors we see here in our shelter magazines and blogs?  What do you think it is??  It definitely feels British which I love.
Thanks Josie for letting me share with my readers!
You can visit Josie’s website here and follow her on facebook to learn more about what she does…or if you have questions about her gorgeous Farrow & Ball paint colours (that was for your Josie). I enjoyed meeting her today and hearing all about her home in Kent and her home in West U, her children and creative life!

  1. Beautiful. When I was looking at the photos, I was thinking…ah…a British Holly Mathis! You two certainly have your similarities in style. Then I read your question and looked more closely to see if there really is a difference. I think it is the windows…they are very wide. I don’t think most American houses have the windows like the rooms displayed here. That eat in kitchen would be my dream kitchen!

  2. Holly, this house was fun to tour. So many lovely details!! Thanks for sharing.
I wanted to tell you how much I’m enjoying your blog redesign. It looks so professional, is easy to navigate and really showcases your work!

  3. Wow! Does this mean her home in the US is this gorgeous too? Maybe she’d share with us.

    Absolutely Stunning!

  5. Thank you all for your sweet comments! Holly, it was such a pleasure to meet you yesterday and I really do look forward to seeing you again soon.
Our home in England does have a very ‘English’ vibe to it, and to be honest I’m missing it like crazy at the moment….hey, ho, home this summer to enjoy it (and escape the Houston heat!).
Our home in the US is rented so I’m limited with what I can do – currently we are repainting the interior which is making me very happy (previous colours where pea-soup green and satsuma….yum!).
Thank you all again for your kind words, Josie x

  6. How beautiful! It is pretty, and decorated, yet in a natural way; not contrived or staged.

  7. How lovely! I can see why you two quickly became friends. Looking forward to seeing a glimpse into her Texas house, if she will oblige.

  11. So gorgeous!!! Holly, you have the most exciting and fun job!! I know it is a lot of hard work too! Have a great weekend.

  12. Hi! I wasn’t sure where to ask this but as I was perusing your site I wondered if you could tell me what the fabric is in your dining room and also the blue ikat type fabric in the Louisiana farmhouse? Thanks.

  13. Josie has the most beautiful taste and everything is so elegantly considered – both her home decor choices and her exquisite stationary company Farser & Parsley. I am personally thrilled to see that she is burning the new JO LOVES branded candle by fragrance designer Jo Malone in her sitting room!! Quintessentially British through and through!

  14. Love the kitchen! thanks for sharing. Any one know where the barstools can be bought?
