Louisiana kitchen: before & after

This is kitchen is one of my favorite projects ever!  I enjoyed working on this home so much and especially this room.  I thought I had shown before pictures but when I was last in Louisiana and we were discussing, I realized I had not..so here it goes!

and now with new cabinets, refinished floors and appliances!

THE AFTER!

Updated farm kitchen with original door to laundry room

We removed the peninsula where the stove was before and opened up the breakfast room to the kitchen proper and added a thin island and penandts…this moved the stove to an outside wall which the homeowners were fine with but overall the general footprint is very similar..we did add more butler pantry area and close one door but laundry room door stayed the same..and of course we had to add some open shelving and lighting! oh the lightning! I love how the lighting is different but all flows.

We also moved the dishwasher and lost the double ovens but they gained an amazing Viking range with shelf!

Notice the tongue and groove wood ceiling and the beadboard backsplash..they add so much..there is no subway tile in this kitchen..we used glossy white paint on beadboard and that has been fine ..and this is a cook’s kitchen..not just for show.  The carerra and farm sink are also holding up well.  The homeowner says she is careful with her winebottles and they use a big butcher block a lot but the carerra and wood top on island are holding up great!

New cabinets and more storage

I love to visit this faucet!

Kitchen updates

A few sources:

The faucet is Rohl
The school house lights are from Rejuvenation
Cute light over sink also Rejuvenation
Stove is Viking
Carrerra honed marble..honed is important!
Wall color BM Edgecomb gray
All trim and cabinets are semi gloss BM white dove, ceiling is their pearl finish!
Restoration Gilmore hardware on cabinets
The thing I love most about this kitchen is its not just for show…the family really uses and enjoy it everyday and its full of wondeful food, love and hospitality.  It was a pleasure and blessing to be a part of this project!

  1. Love.this.kitchen!!!! As I sit here in the drywall dust, whilst a super grouchy gas guy runs the lines for the range, this post is a perfect reminder as to why I’m doing this lol. I think our kitchen will be very similar….viking range, white dove shaker cabs, some glass cabs, cup pulls, honed marble counters with wood island top, PB lighting (and I think I need to change out the kitchen nook light to the Graham. I think this one is just too small and it bugs me everytime I look at it), some open shelving, backed by beadboard. Yup, very similar, so if it looks half as great as this one, then I’ll be one lucky girl!!!

  2. Hi Holly!
Great job:) Just a quick question. I too am going to paint my ceiling in the “pearl” finish, but was wondering the color you used….white dove also?
    Thanks!

  19. Holly, this is probably my favorite design job you have done so far and I have so many favorites. Not the layout but the walls, Viking, marble and cabinets and even wood on the island is so reminiscent of what we have lined up for our kitchen remodel! I only wish I had this much space!! My question regards an accessory, the big glass canisters on the long bank of cabinets, do you know where I can find those? I have been hunting for those simple canisters for a long time! Once again, a fantastic job, delightful to look at, and I am sure, amazing to live and work in!

  20. Holly you did an awesome job!!! Such beautiful work!!
