At Home with Grace Happens

Do y’all remember the wonderfully fresh and preppy blog called Grace Happens?  Oh yes, she had me at her love for her little boy and blue and white pottery.

Blogger-Blue-and-White3

Grace was (and is) a Southern belle transplated to California with her precious family, making adjustments and remodeling along the way.  She is living the good life out there on the opposite coast of her beloved hometown of Richmond, Virginia, and doing it all with a mix of preppy style, tradition, meaningful heirlooms, youthful freshness and well….grace.  You may remember I posted on her son’s room here and I also think I blogged about her California kitchen which you can read about here.  I’ve known Grace now for years and her heart and personal story of family and faith bless me even more than her great style and image. But I sure do love her style and can’t wait to share the new house with y’all and update you on her family!

{A shot from the first Grace Happens kitchen}

Many of you were probably following her blog as she was raising little Harper and decorating their first Cali home.  Then she announced with joy that they were expecting baby number 2 and sold their first home, moved and started a huge renovation on a new house! Then we heard little else from Grace other than an occasional update on Reid’s birth and first few months, unless you started following her on Instagram. Thank you Lord for Instagram and all its blessings right?! Seriously. Though I know many of us moms understand and respect when moms step away from blogging to focus on family and new babies, we still miss seeing and hearing from our favorite blogs right?

{One of my favorite Grace Happens moments below…a baby shower for her friend Alexis!}

{I love how Grace always works in blue and white check and or pottery so effortlessly}

So Grace and I talked and I kept telling her about how some of our mutual blog readers would likely love to see her new home and how the kids are growing. . . so here we go with a sneak peek of the new house that they took down to the studs and TOTALLY REDID!

Complete with green DUTCH DOOR!

The new house

BTW, Harper and baby girl are doing great.  I can’t believe how fast they are growing!

Harper is five and Reid is already 17 months! So you can see why we haven’t seen much of Grace in blogland! Don’t they look beautiful dressed up in blue!

Back to the house…one of the first things that struck me when Grace started instagramming about the house was the lighting! When I saw she was using these particular lanterns I flipped because I LOVE these Richmond lanterns from Shades of Light. I have used them in other houses and blogged about them before on a lantern roundup post. I love the brass rod inside and the rustic patina on the outside.  They go great with all of the unlacquered brass faucets she chose AND its called the Richmond and she is from Richmond, VA! Hello. Perfect match! Shades of Light is actually based in Richmond, Virginia.

Sneak peek of her fab kitchen, reclaimed wood shelving, carerra marble, amazing island and her stove….oh her stove.  I don’t want to show it all yet because I predict Grace may be featured in a major magazine soon and I don’t want to steal their thunder!  In the meantime enjoy these shots from around the Sorenson’s new home.

Hello Shaw sink!

DSC_0194

I need to get her to send some before photos, the transformation is amazing. I  love the contrast here of the soft and refined marble against the rustic island.  Oh there it is. . . the La Cornue stove!

More snips of the finishes in the kitchen.  If anyone has misgivings about mixing finishes, look to Grace, she has used brass and stainless and bronze on lights. I love the mix!

DSC_0116

Down the hall and oh my the pagoda lantern in the Master bedroom. This one comes in red too! Just sayin. I do love how her furniture and linens from the old house seem to work so well in the new house. Love that bolster. And the star sconce. I’ve used that sconce in two other houses and its great.

Hallway lighting can be tricky but this is a perfect example of semi-flushmount in a hallway done well!

DSC_0073

Hallway lights are from Shades of Light as well. They have longer chain I believe they just mounted them flush to fit the space!

DSC_0347_3

I think these swing arm brass lights in the bathroom are my fave thing in entire house.

Or maybe the hose faucets and tile. She used carerra throughout just like in the previous.  She is obviously not worried about the staining or water marks!

DSC_0345_2

The guest bath lights are from Ballard but discontinued.  I love the beadboard of course.  She does nautical so well. I love the pivot mirrors and white shades against the beadboard and dark walls.

And the paint colors, Grace used Martha Stewart Flagstone one of my faves on the bookcases and other built-ins!

Thanks for taking a special sneak peek tour with me of Grace’s new home.  I will keep you posted as she has more shots to share, I know she has more projects and progress in the works. And thanks to Grace for letting us see into her beautiful new home and life.

    Hi Holly,

    I have always loved Grace’s taste too and have called in often to her blog in the hope she had posted. I had no idea that they had sold their home and undertaken such a huge renovation of their new home. I loved all the pictures today and especially the lights. I just wish I could get my hands on those lights too…..I don’t know what it is but we don’t seem to place as much emphasise on gorgeous lights like you do there in the U.S. You just nail it everytime. I am so glad that you posted us this update. Thank you to you and Grace for sharing. Harper and Reid have grown so much. It was lovely to see them too.
