Favorite color

I am not sure how this started, my friends Tessa and Camille both love this color too so maybe I got it from them.  Or maybe from this Southern Living article but I am obsessed with Chelsea Gray.

Vintage Style Island

Actually two colours;  Revere Pewter and Chelsea Gray both by Benj Moore…these colors just work everywhere. Chelsea is great on furniture on shutters and especially on kitchen islands like pictured in this article. I think I have blogged this before but it deserves an encore because whenever I see it on pinterest or anywhere my heart goes pitter patter.  dork I know right?! but its true.

Cape Cod-Style Makeover

And with that Carrera counters ..yum!  The cabinets and walls are Revere Pewter and again the island is the darker Chelsea Gray…love it with the dark hardware especially!

Kitchen After

love the wood walls (its all painted Revere Pewter the trim and shelves and doors and cabinets!)  in the Butler’s pantry and wood counters in that space.

and then the  dining walls are CHELSEA GRAY..those slipcovers slay me too!

Oh and for a bit more Chelsea gray click here.  It is great on walls too like in Brooke Shields home.

and

A perfect gray: Chelsea gray by BM. My living room happens to be the exact same layout too.

and I have done interior doors in this color too (when I did it we didn’t paint the trim in the gray as well but I like how it is done below by Room Seventeen Style)

Love this! Paint doors and trim rich dark gray. Can't find name of this color but it's close to Chelsea Gray by Benjamin Moore.

Oh and FYI, if you want a SW color similar to Revere Pewter check SW Amazing Gray..it is nearly spot on to Revere Pewter in my view…also Martha’s “sharkey gray” is almost the same to amazing gray and revere pewter!

What are your favorite light grays, dark grays?  I know many of my design friends love BM Gray Owl, BM flagstone, SW anonymous, online and chat room! I also like some of the Restoration Hardware grays like Graphite and gravel! What are YOUR faves?

  1. I’m so glad you posted this! I am getting ready to paint our family room Revere Pewter… a friend recommended it after she painted the downstairs our her newly built home the color. It really is a perfect gray. I’ve painted our foyers and halls in Revere Pewter 1/2 formula but am going full strength in the family room. Gray Owl and Halo are 2 of my favorite Benjamin Moore grays. I’m crushing on the Chelsea Gray though! I’ll have to find somewhere to use it… Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. My favorite gray is Bay Sands by Valspar. It is soft, but not too pale. A very calm gray. I have it in my kitchen and in my daughter’s room. We also used it in a rental house here: https://theoldpostroadblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/powder-room-redo.html

  3. Beautiful, Holly! All just beautiful.

  4. Especially fond of the Revere Pewter. . .

  5. we just painted our family room/kitchen and foyer 25% revere pewter and we LOVE it!! seriously thinking of repainting our white fireplace mantle chelsea gray…thanks for the inspiration!

  6. I love all of the grays, but I have personally used SW Anonymous on an outside table and pergola and I love it! It definitely reads lighter outdoors, but it’s a great gray. I have a pinterest board called French Grey and Burlap…I need to add some of these pics!

  7. I just used Revere Pewter in my master bedroom and I LOVE it. We are about to sell our home and I am ready to repaint everything in my new house the same color.

  8. After several years I’m still loving my Chelsea Gray cabinets. Quite a feat for a girl who likes to change paint colors like some change their nail polish! Gorgeous photos, Holly!!!!

  9. We used Martha Stewarts sharkey grey in our laundry room. Thinking you may have just given me my colours for the upcoming library project!! Thank you 🙂

  10. For a dark gray I love Kendall Charcoal (BM). Just painted my outdoor shutters and fence that color and its perfect! Love the images you showed. I have used both of those colors.

  11. Martha Stewarts seal and zinc; great for accents!! I love darker grays with a bit of copper or brass. Shoot. I love anything with a little bit of copper or brass. 😉

  12. Love Chelsea Gray, but not a fan of Revere Pewter. Painted my old bathroom that color and there was a sickly yellow undertone. Maybe it was the light in that room, but never going there again!

  13. This could not be more timely, Holly!! When I get back home, I’m planning on painting my dining room gray so I’ll check out your recommendations before choosing a color.

Hope the boys are doing well in school.

    Blessings,

    Missouri Barb

  14. I love BM Galveston Grey, I have a 200% formula on my kitchen island and kitchen mantel. Most of the main areas in our house are BM Balboa Mist….an extremely light grey that does not turn blue at all.

  15. hi sweets! i’m still obsessed with the SL home! i was just thinking about repainting charlie’s BR revere pewter. you know, b/c chelsea gray is already on the bed! haha! xoxo

  16. Glad you love it and glad you shared it way back when, because of your exterior house paint post, I’m painting my house Chelsea gray and Oxford white right now! It is a beautiful gray. There are no funny undertones.

  17. LeAnn Gunter Johns says

Love this color! Recently had our living room painted and used a contractor. We asked for kid-friendly paint since we have toddlers. We know nothing about painting and so we trusted him. They painted Flat wall paint which is showing everything! It’s horrible. So, we are having to have our living room re-painted. What kind of paint is best for toddlers, especially boys?

  18. Love this post Holly! My fave grey is BM Natural cream which I have used through almost my entire house. It is like Revere Pewter’s paler cousin. It’s just perfect. Well, in my opinion! It’s all over my house so I obviously like it a little!

  19. I’m going to be a Debbie Downer and tell you two grays that I don’t like! BM Stonington gray reads like cement in my home. I have it in a current bathroom and my nursery. Also, we’re building a new house and I has the main living areas/hallways/stairwells painted SW Repose Gray. I thought it was going to be a nice, warm gray but it’s reading very very silvery, which is not the look I was going for. Pretty, but not warm.

  20. Oh…I do love love love the girl’s portraits….. Can you give me some insight? Where, who…..you know….details…..Such a great look!!! Thank you!

  21. SW Knitting Needles is the perfect soft gray for a little girls nursery.
