THE NEST Project

I am going to start out the new year telling you about a fun project.  The Nest is a bed and breakfast project I worked on with my friends Jay and Sally White of Brenham, Texas. The Nest is 14X28 (392 sq’)  Each room is 14X14.  The structure is an old motor court that sits next to their charming home and garden in the countryside of Washington County just miles from Round Top!

I got to know the Whites when Sally was my son’s third grade teacher.  She is an amazing teacher and we just fell in love with both of them.  Jay helped me with a tree project at our previous house and my recent boxwood acquisitions at our new old house (blog post forthcoming).  Jay’s day job is at Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer center but his passion is organic and heirloom gardening and he and Sally love collecting antiques and vintage. And not just your typical old stuff, they like funky stuff like lucite and weird art and art deco.  To sum it up, they are cool!  Going to their house is happy and fun just like they are…they have chickens, and the color red is everywhere and there are plants and bugs and the boys and I both love it!  So when they asked me to help with polishing up their little bed and breakfast venture I was thrilled to help!  Sally and Jay are so funny..they laugh a lot and are self depricating in the best way.  Jay and I were like two pre-teens at the mall shopping and giggling while working on this project and Sally is such a good sport putting up with our shennagins and excitement.

This is the bedroom area of The Nest… with comfy and colorful bed!  Jay bought yards of this Ikea fabric a while back and we used  it on drapes and bedskirt. You know I had to throw in a red tolix chair (actually Jay painted it and Sally’s childhood desk). Jay did the art of their daughters… I love the style!  And the old letters and letterpress print . . . . I love that Jay and Sally let me do so many little funk gallery walls.
