You have heard of the Kips Bay Show House but what about Eau Claire, Wisconsin?? That’s right, yours truly has been working with Eau Claire builder Glen and Allison Mills of MyNextHome on a really neat, REALISTIC and special show house!

This is a more realistic but no less beautiful show home. Less than 4k square feet but with lots of craftsmen details and beauty!

Barn Lights from Barn Light Electric, custom doors but with functional vinyl siding and black windows for a bit of fresh modern country charm!

White white white paint everywhere or small variations but the warmth from stone and wood floors and beams keep it from being color..laying in rugs and drapes and upholstery will also add those final layers of warmth to this clean background canvas.

I was up there in November and IT WAS ALREADY SOOO COLD! But such an amazing trip!

Glen and Allison and their craftsmen are just so cool and talented and into what they do…providing homes for families….and this home is special because it showcases what their company does, but will also be a “town house” for their family.  You see Allison, is a true blue Midwestern farmgirl….Y’all she feels it in her bones…it’s such a neat thing and they have been living on her family farm. But it is a ways from town and being the good mama and wife she is she told me “this farm has been my dream and my family has endulged me but we need a place in town that isn’t freezing all winter” among other things so they are finally building a town house! What is wonderful, is Allison is getting to keep the farm but they will have a warm place to land full time. Did y’all know how cold an OLD Wisconsin farmhouse can be in the dead of winter?  Mind blowing.

Glen said “when your kids come downstairs in ski suits and they are still cold it’s just time to do something”… But I must tell y’all the afternoon I spent in Allison’s farm kitchen talking about family and design and her life and home was one of the best days of my life.  Seriously.  I could go on and on but Allison is such a neat person. (love you too Glen;;)

She looks like a cross between Andie MacDowell and Amy Grant and talks like them too!

Can you even believe this barn? Yes it was a dairy. I have such a thing for barns.  Is there anything more American? It’s like a quilt… just makes me want to cry thinking about these old barns

My phone pics just don’t do it justice. But I have better photos coming soon. I will be traveling back up there in June to help tweak and prepare for the opening of the “town house”…they are finishing up…just a few weeks left! Staining floors and putting up shiplap…don’t you love the black windows?

And she has run with it and it has been such a pleasure to assist along the way…we have morning coffee chats and “I am driving to Houston” calls on speaker fun and it has been pure joy!

I am going to blog more soon about the history of the farm and Allison’s story.   As well as progress pics on the construction.

About beauty and home and family and mostly about us. His sons and daughters.

  1. Love love the farmhouse. Can’t wait to see pics from the next trip up there!

  2. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see this post today! I spent my first 33 years in Chippewa Falls, which is the smaller neighbor to Eau Claire. Three years ago, my husband, kiddos and I moved to Iowa (because I will NEVER leave the Midwest), but I really miss being that far north. We have been talking a lot lately about going back, and this house is really selling me on the idea! Go see Chippewa next time you are there, please! Take a drive through Irvine Park and get a cone at Olson’s. Since you will be there in June, you should also go to LaGrander’s (an old drive-in on Lake Wissota) and get some root beer in a frosty mug. In Eau Claire, you have to get a burger at Mogie’s. Have fun!!!
As an aside, I grew up in a house there that was built in 1877, and, yes, I know EXACTLY how cold an old farmhouse in northern Wisconsin gets in the middle of winter. But I also know how much better a warm fire feels, and how much better hot cocoa tastes in a house like that:)

  3. How exciting. I can’t wait to see the end result. I’m now following Allison on instagram.
    Enjoy your weekend.

  4. It’s good to hear that you’re sticking close to God and can see His goodness in this season. I’ve been praying for you and for your boys. I’ve been through what you’re going through and I know what it’s like. The best thing is to trust Him, pray about everything leaving it all at His feet and don’t let people’s dire warnings about how kids of single moms turn out so bad. I determined that my kids would not be statistics and I held them up to God and you know what? My three boys all attended West Point and are happily married lieutenants (or soon will be). God Is So Good and He is Faithful! Love you Holly!
