    I love Grace Sorenson from the blog Grace Happens.  She is truly one of the nicest people I have met online… Some of you might scoff at that, like how can you really know someone online and i do believe it is a bit different but Grace is truly a class act and genuine person.  I love the way she writes about her parents, hometown and longing for the South. Her precious family moved from Virginia to CA a few years back and she brilliantly blends Southern traditions with beach fun…i adore her style!  And this shower for her friend Alexis and baby is so pretty and fresh!~  enjoy!

    DSC_0491

    Interestingly enough most of the shower guests are bloggers and consist of designers, graphic designers, prop stylists, fashion designers, etc.. Talk about pressure but Grace pulled it together..effortlessly beautiful, wonderfully edited, not too over the top..just right! Notice all of the details!

    See more of the party here!

     I am thrilled to have Erin Austen Abbott Kirkpatrick of Amelia in Oxford, Mississippi, here today to explain to us all about Pinterest and “pinning” ..be warned, its amazing and addictive…I {Holly} will be making little comments through the post in { brackets } fyi..because i can’t stay out of the conversation…

    TAKE IT AWAY ERIN AUSTEN ABBOTT KIRKPATRICK

    {don’t you love her name, it sounds like a character from Southern gothic literature, no?!) and be sure and check her funky house here on Design*sponge and her city guide she wrote for DS about Oxford!}

    {this is one of my favorite “pins” on Erin’s baby board}

    Hi there, I’m Erin from Amelia, in Oxford, Mississippi.  Holly, thanks so much for having me today to talk about the wonderful world that is Pinterest. Before the Internet, I used to collect page after page of images that inspired me. Stacks of pulled out pictures that just simply got lost because I couldn’t keep up with organizing everything that I saw that I wanted to keep. Then along came the Internet and I learned the beauty of bookmarking. That was nice for awhile, then all these super inspiring bloggers started awesome blog rolls and the cycle began again… Bookmarked images, not sure where it was, nor what that random link in my file would take me to. Enter Pinterest. Finally! Linked images, before me, placed on a board that I named. I can see it. I can link it. I can organize it. I’m now all fixed up… I’ll walk you through how it works and how you can get started pinning right away. Pinterest requires an invite, but it only takes a few days until they accept you. That’s step number one. Once you’re in, it’s time to start pinning.

    I started by setting up a few boards that I knew I had images for. Next, I got the “pin it” link for my menu bar. Every time you set up a board, you will see the directions to walk you through how to install the link. Once I had that, I started going back through a lot of my bookmark files, to get many of those images onto my Pinterest boards.

    {I love that Erin has a board of storefront inspiration -Holly}

    Now when I begin to read the blogs in my google reader everyday, I open up Pinterest, so I’m ready to pin as soon as I find a little inspiration. When you come across an image you like on a blog, a website, a store’s online catalog… Anything really, simply click on “pin it” from your menu bar and a new screen will pop up. All the images on the screen will appear and you will click on what you would like to pin. From there, you can scroll through to which board you’d like to put it in. Next, give it a description. It’s here that you can list where you found the image, for easier recall. Each image will have a link built in, but it’s a nice way to give credit to the blog or site right off the bat.

    {One of Holly’s first and favorite pins…from the Doctor’s Daughter blog}

    Another fun thing about Pinterest, is you can view everyone else’s boards, see what’s inspiring them and then repin images from them anytime. Simply click on repin on their pin, scroll through to the board you want it in and describe however you’d like. If you find a board you like from someone else, you can follow that board or all of their boards.

    When you sign in, you will be directed to the front page of all the boards you follow, but if you click on discussions, you will be taken to the whole world of Pinterest. The most circulated images at the moment will be on that page. I’ve found some pretty cool images there, but generally I’m on to pin from folks I follow and pin from blogs I read. Pinterest has been great for other things too. My husband I want to remodel our bathroom. Now, rather than bookmark files of sinks I like or fixtures, ect… I just started a board titled bathrooms and now, anytime I see an image of a bathroom I really like, I pin it, then in the description I list what I like about it, “that sink” or “I like the way the mirrors hang”. We are finally ready to start remodeling and decisions are already made for us.

    {Holly’s collage board that she is pinning collage wall inspiration too so she can share with clients}

    It’s also been helpful for design jobs. I can make a board for a client and make it private. Anytime I see things for them, I can “pin it” and have it all there in front of me to see how it all looks together. Once the job is done, I can save it or delete the board. {I am so going to do this..great idea…and my clients are already showing ME their pins so i can get an idea of their style before we start a project..another tool for e-consults and online design!…Holly}

    You must credit the proper site though. It’s only right. {this can be tricky..i *think* it automatically links but if i see an image where i know the original source i type it in the comment area as well..does that make sense?}

    {for instance the above image is on my collage board..so would you say “image from purlbee.com via Holly Mathis’s collage board on pinterest”?  That seems silly..i think just cite back to the original source if possible???}

    That’s Pinterest. It’s really fun once you get started. Don’t forget to follow Holly and me. We look forward to see what you’re pinning.

    For more information be sure and read RULES TO PIN BY and the Pinterest blog~

    {Thanks Erin, GREAT JOB EXPLAINING…let’s keep the discussion going in comments.. I am sure we forgot to mention some things  or perhaps it all sounds confusing especially with me piping in but we can continue the discussion..fire away..have yall used pinterest? heard of it?  what do you think?}

    I was delighted when Holly asked if I would be a guest blogger here today, which gives me the opportunity to show off her contribution to the new e-zine House of Fifty! I first “met” Holly through her beautiful blog and later through emails and working with her on the article. If you write a blog or work for yourself from home, you know what a solitary role it can sometimes become. The connections we make online become the equivalent of our friends from the office! One of the best parts of working on this new venture has been the opportunity to collaborate more closely with a large number of talented women, and it is a welcome change that I am enjoying!
    Holly wrote a charming and informative article outlining 10 tips for creating a delightful nursery, and as you know from reading her blog, she knows what she is talking about!
    Click here to read the article, which begins on page 114.
    And Holly, one of these days it would be great to meet in person…
    {I am so thrilled to have Janell of Isabella + Max posting for me today..thanks Janell and thanks for asking me to be a part of House of Fifty..it is amazing..yall must check it out! Wonderful story on Kayce Hughes and mucho eye candy, ideas and MUCH more. And Janell, I hope to meet one day in person too!}

    Or copy or borrow or whatever..steal sounds sooo BADDD (ha!) but that is what the girls at Kelly+Olive are calling their new e-book.  It’s a great little book and I am honored they asked me to be a part..here is what they have to say about the amazing project!

    Ideas You Should Steal contains 17 fun projects submitted by top home, craft, and lifestyle bloggers from all over the web. Learn how to make an end table out of a suitcase, how to stencil your walls using a toilet paper roll, or even make your own rug! we know there is a project in here that will inspire you! For a donation as little as $1, you can have a copy of your own. and we’re happy to say that 100% of the proceeds of this book go to Dwell with Dignity! Dwell with Dignity was founded to help hard-working individuals and families in need to just that – dwell with dignity. using re-purposed and recycled items, they create beautiful and creative homes for families in transitional housing, giving deserving families a fresh start and a new outlook on life. hopefully, such inspiration will help them break the punishing cycle of poverty and homelessness and give them a new outlook on life.

    I love that they worked so hard on this and are donating 100% to a wonderful cause- Dwell with Dignity in Dallas, Texas. I really interested and amazed at what they are doing over at Dwell with Dignity and I hope this entire project is a huge success.

    To learn more about this charity or donate directly to Dwell with Dignity click here.

    Download the ebook here…and thanks Kelly+Olive..they are some cool chicks!

    {photo from Blue Hills show}

    This is not a comprehensive  post on how to tour Round Top…just a glimpse.  Honestly, it is proof i am in fact NOT a professional blogger, because I didn’t take my Canon Rebel….Emily and I had to borrow KC’s camera or use the phone for all of our shots.  So i apologize for not getting better photos but what can i say..we were having fun!

    We started at Zapp hall..a fun plce to hang out and find smalls or linens. or eat at the Royers tent..I was excited to see Scarlett Scales Antiques from Franklin TN at Zapp Hall this year!

    I am really not a cool enough chica to get into the junk gypsy THANG;; but i did think these deer with tiaras over this bed display were pretty fun!

    Emily, KC and I found a mirror for our photo!

    We left Zapp and headed to Blue Hills and the Arbors….these shows have less smalls and trendy small items and more furniture and lighting…the photo of all of the burlap chairs and industrial pieces on Emily’s site are from blue hills! Though I did have a client find a great prayer chair near Zapp for a great price so you just never know where you will find what!

    …and then a yummy dinner at Royers Round Top Cafe! (thanks for the pie and peppers Tara!)

    and off to the party at Leftovers..Rachel ashwell was there signing books (you can see the glorious display at Leftovers below)…everyone is buzzing about her purchase and plans for her new place in Round Top.  Rachel Ashwell has officially arrived on the prairie! More sneak peaks here.

    {photo from here}

    Sunday morning we buzzed down to Houston for church at Houston’s First Baptist Church.. we joked we might see Beth Moore because she is a member there….sure enough…she was seated in the area just below us..i spotted her hot pink jacket and said “look yall, it’s Beth!” they were excited and we went over and said hello after the service.  Emily said later “that was even better than meeting Rachel Ashwell” sorry rachel.

    Then it was off to the Historic Heights for lunch at Shade and a little shopping..then i said goodbye to my buddies at the airport.  boohoo! Click over here to read more about our adventures…

    My mom and I are going to try to hit the Marburger Show this weekend, maybe i will see YOU!
