Subway art was a gift to her husband for Christmas with names of all of the places t hey have lived!

See this is a great room (both above and below) but they live in a chilly region of the country..i started beggging her to let me add fabric and just a bit of color, she really likes  a clean look which i respect…

but lights over the island PLEASE????!!!!! she agreed and these are from home depot i believe..so reasonable!

So, it took some convincing to get her to add some color and pattern…even just some new pillows added so much, we are still working on the living room drapes;

 but she is so glad she did and even her hubby likes the new light!

and the colorful little bench adding some warmth and fun to a blank wall in the living room..i was amazed how i mentioned a shabby little chippy bench and then days later she found this at a local (and huge) flea market!  Often finding that perfect little piece can take much longer but it fills the space perfectly and is usual for her young family!

and drapes in the bedroom too please.

nothing fancy..just some linen from good ol IKEA on the windows and she covered the headboard as well!

she added the ledge over the bed for more art rather than the lonely mirror she had and added the drapes and new pillow and lamp.and voila!

In her dining room (which you could see a peek of at the very top) the windows are crying out for drapes.i love how this blue ikat looks! Hopefully she will let them stay and add to the other window!;

and her kaboo chairs of course..just a pillow please!

So dont feel overwhelmed with your decorating goals for the new year..you know  you have them;;  just consider a new light and some fabric to start with! Or paint your front door that fab color!

This is so easy and basic I hate to even call it a tutorial.  Remember when SNL used to do those skits of Martha Stewart taking forever and dragging out really simple kitchen tasks…this is how i feel today..but hey you asked so here is a summary of what i did with silhouette and hoop ornaments.  By the way, thank y’all so much for the kind words about our home.  Each one made me blush!

OK so i mentioned my inspiration was the Juliet Romano tree from years ago.  My initial idea was to do new silhouettes (using the tutorial over at Jones Design Company in the paint.net program) of each family member including grandparents and aunt.  I was going to take their profile pics on Thanksgiving.  I thought it would be fun for the kids to have these one day and also to try to figure out who is who on the tree.  Emily’s tutorial is very simple and well done but i could not figure it out..i don’t have great computer skillz! So i used my hp printer/copier/scanner and copied the four various silhouettes i have of the boys in various sizes. I did it on cardstock and the quality if fine for me.

For frames I bought $1 unpainted wood frames at Michaels (the oval ones are from there) and Hobby Lobby, removed the glass safety (remember i am dealing with a toddler) and then painted.

For paint I used the same color for all frames (including the little ornament frames i found at Hobby Lobby for the top of the tree).  The color is MARTHA STEWART FLAGSTONE from Home Depot..the same color as my hutch.  Once dry I used a papertowel and watered down dark brown craft paint to slightly add a little depth in color..I am pretty sure i did this at the kitchen counter while making Henry a quesadilla one night.  Just wipe on and off..you could use glaze or shoe polish.  Then i slightly very slightly hit edges with fine sandpaper to take off any extra brown etc…I LOVE how the frames turn out..i would suggest an entire gallery wall in this color frames..its very pretty.  And then i glued on some ribbon for hangers and voila!

For the fabric hoops, I simply bought 3 and 4″ inches hoops at Michaels and Hobby Lobby..i had to hit both stores to get enough..i suggest 12-15…they were 79-99 cents each.  I bought half a yard of two different plaids…

Cut squares about 6″, placed in hoop. and trimmed..I did by some new 99 cent scissors at HL so i could get an easy trim on the edges…and added ornaments hooks.

THAT IS IT!

My kind of project.  The hoops would also be so cute with grain sack fabric or a wild Amy butler fabric for a tree in a girls room….it would also be very cute to embroider a silhouette or monogram on the hoop fabric..but i don’t really have time or skills for that project!

Oh and about the canvas over our mantle, it is custom work by Lindsay Letters and she is on maternity leave and not selling the file but hopefully we can work out something for next year.  But good news, Dee at Red Letter Words has a version as well and it comes in two fonts and a lovely gray..check it out here! She has it in gray and red and in two different fonts!

I knew something was up when a client of mine kept telling me the swatch she requested from them wasn’t coming…never came.  And then she called. NO ANSWER.  Then i called and called and called.  Even called the Houston store, no answer.  And then i saw the statement on their website.

We wanted to use one of these in her dining room.  sniff sniff.

I loved their chinoseries and toile patters but this stripe too.

While my taste has changed over the years I still loved so many of their classic fabrics.

BTW. the girl at the Houston store (they have 31 stores) said they are getting a large shipment of rugs soon!  fyi! And you must go into the store and they have to check the main warehouse before you can order fabric.  Don’t expect much phone help or ordering online.

Rest in peace Pierre! So many things are closing.  It is sad. I know there are sadder issues and results of the bad economy out there.  I need to remember that when i can’t find a decent toile.

Editor in chief Pilar Guzman’s Brooklyn Limestone is so interesting (and her family shares it with brother in law and his family, he just happens to be the vp of Bennison fabric..how convenient.)

Below is my favorite shot..just perfection.

 The boy, the fabric, the frames, the color on the frames, the garment in the frame, the greek key pattern on the floor, the black millwork.  Love. it. all.

For now here is a peek from the installation photos…we still need to tweak and add a few accessories but I am so happy with how it is looking so far!

 We did a different fabric and shape for the accent pillow, love the long bolster, it has blue linen welt/trim, but the window is the same configuration as the inspiration photo..love it!

Yall this fabric is hand printed, it is amazing!

 I love the Audobon looking pillow, my client is from Louisiana so it is perfect for her not to mention the colors are spot on! Hopefully I will have more styled photos to show you soon!

Are those even Waverly prints used on the washers and cans???? I never find much i love at Waverly though i am loving their  silhouette paper, very similar to Osborne and Little’s pricier version.
