Reflective.

I don’t even know where to start.  I will say I am not hustling into the New Year.  We’ve had sick kids off and on all Christmas, the decorations are still up, big brother doesn’t go back to school until tomorrow, so we are still lounging and in holiday mode.  It will be another week or so before I start the diet, think about changes and organization and resolutions.  So forgive the slow pace but sometimes I think I don’t really enjoy BEING and enjoy Christmas until after its over.  Anyone else feel that way?

I will say its been a great year and we are looking forward to the next.  My husband was sworn in on Saturday for his second term at a job he loves and is so good at, very proud of him and the important work he does..the kids are growing and healthy (except for bad tonsils and ears but i am very aware that sick at Christmas is much better than in the hospital at Christmas, again thankful it wasnt worse).  We are tired a lot but happy…ha!  I am very thankful to be able to be home with the boys and write this blog and work with clients online.  What a blessing..I never could have imagined this kind of job…  So thank you for reading and thank you for your patience with my grammar, bad humor, and other mediocrity. Thank you for getting excited about little things like the perfect pillow and photos of my kids.

Here is a recap of my fave projects completed in 2010.

Henry’s birthday thank you for indulging me in this mama neurosis..it was so fun!

And our master bedroom redo…this was a much needed change that I am enjoying everyday…so glad i tackled this project in 2010.

Finally numbering my stairs..i hope i can embrace this LIVE WHAT YOU LOVE philosophy more in the new year.

And last but not least thank you for watching DESIGN TEAM HYACINTH over at that little blog called  PIONEER WOMAN..fun and crazy project!

So Happy New Year, thanks for reading, would love to hear what everyone is up to today and how you are transitioning into the New Year! and please stay tuned…i have some fun stuff to share soon!

  1. So envious that you have another day of vacation. 🙂 Natalie went back to preschool this morning, and I hated the sound of the alarm. I spend so much of December rushing around trying to “make Christmas happen,” and I don’t seem to appreciate it all until it’s over and I’m boxing up the decorations. Need to do better about that this next year. 🙂

  2. Holly – thank you for all your inspiring thoughts and ideas. I took a break over the holidays working on my house – but now that the new year is here i will be back at it- sending you pics of all the updates and wanting your advice!! Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, blessed and prosperous 2011!

  3. Good for you. There’s no rush to jump into all that resolution, diet, exercise, get healthy, organized, be a better….just fill in the blank. When you stick to YOUR timetable you have a much better chance at successfully completing whatever you start.

  4. Holly I love your blog, love your style, and adored reading about your son’s party this past year. Thank you so much for being open and sharing. I too agree that we don’t really get to enjoy BEING nor enjoy Christmas itself until it has come and gone. It usually comes in a whirlwind. I would much prefer a whisper. So as I spent a week taking down all the trimmings (Layla from the Lettered Cottage did a photoshoot here over the holidays so there was alot of greenery) I made a strange list…a list of things I will not do for Christmas in 2011..which areas I will not decorate…all in the hopes of having more time to just simply BE. And to slow things down even more, we celebrated our southern New Year’s dinner yesterday – Jan. 2. I think my family actually enjoyed it more. So here’s to a slower paced new year with more time for being.

  5. Holly, I have enjoyed your blog since July when you bravely took on The Office. My family has greatly enjoyed your work there…I am the wife of the partner with the golf prints…not the talented wife who shopped and created with you! I just went into my living room to take down my “magazine” Christmas tree. My grown children call it that because it is beautiful and they love it…I love the one upstairs with their pre-school ornaments more. Anyway, I decided it was too beautiful to take down since I haven’t taken the time to enjoy it this year. When I do pack it away later this week I intend to tuck in a note reminding me to take the time next year to sit next to it, read a book, write my Christmas cards and just enjoy the true beauty of Christmas through it. You are wise beyond your years to realize now that you should slow down and enjoy those babies. Even the sick days you are experiencing now will be precious later.

  6. thank you for your blog…for your friendship (have we really never spoken in person?!?)…for being modest…for not realizing how talented you are…i always look forward to your posts! cheers to 2011!!

  7. Haven’t gotten around to resolutions. All of the kids are back in school today so I am hoping to knock out a lot of laundry, dishes and designing today and not be cranky come 7:00.

  8. Happy 2011 to you too Holly! I’m so thankful to have met you and your lovely blog. I adore your style and your creativity and thank you for all of the inspiration this past year.

  9. So sorry for the sick kids, but you are right, better sick at home than in the hospital. Enjoy your laid back time another day. It will all still be there when you get to it.

My little ones are back at school today and now I have to put this house back together after a weekend of family! Not that I mind, but it is awfully quiet around here, now that everyone is gone…

So enjoy the blog, look forward to another year! Hopefully mine will be up and running soon!
